Nationwide Training Services
The great state of Indiana provides business owners with a 32 page manual, which covers the licensure laws and regulations governing the security industry. This manual provides business owners with a wealth of information and is our doctrine for the way in which we conduct ourselves in business. However, this manual gives us no information or direction when it comes to training the employees we hire. This is left up to the individual company and its owners. The State of Indiana only requires a company to maintain a photograph and a set of fingerprints. No training requirements or guard certification is required.
Although a few states fail to govern the training of security enforcement officers, the majority spend a considerable amount of time and resources to ensure proper training is adhered to. Similar to the states of California, Ohio and many others, New Jersey is a wonderful example of the training regulations needed in the State of Indiana.
According to Title 13, Chapter 55A, Subchapter 3.2, the State of New Jersey requires the following:
(a) "Any person seeking to be employed as, or perform the functions and activities of, a security officer shall submit an application for registration as a security officer . . . " (New Jersey Law)
(b) "An applicant for registration as a security officer shall submit a non-refundable application fee of $50.00 . . . " (New Jersey Law)
(c) Any person seeking to be employed as, or perform the functions and activities of, as security officers shall submit fingerprints and a written consent for a criminal history background check to the Superintendent . . . " (New Jersey Law)
According to Title 13, Chapter 55A, Subchapter 3.4, the State of New Jersey requires the following:
(a) " . . . any person who is employed as, or is performing the functions and activities of, a security officer shall complete a security officer training course, approved by the Superintendent, within 30 days of employment . . . " (New Jersey Law)
(b) " Any person who has not completed a security officer training course within 30 days of employment or prior to the expiration of the temporary certificate of registration, and who has failed to request an extension of time as required by (c) above, shall immediately cease performing the functions and activities of a security officer". (New Jersey Law)
According to Title 13, Chapter 55A, Subchapter 3.5, the State of New Jersey requires the following:
(a) "Upon completion of the required security officer training course, applicants . . . shall be issued a certificate of registration which shall be valid for a period of two years and shall thereafter be renewable every two years." (New Jersey Law)
(b) "Upon completion of the required security officer training course, applicants . . . shall be issued a security officer identification card." (New Jersey Law)
